Verses 1–10

In the beginningGod created the heavens and the earth.

And the earth was waste and empty, and darkness was on the face of the deep, and the Spirit ofGod was hovering over the face of the waters.

AndGod said, Let there be light. And there was light.

AndGod saw the light that it was good; andGod divided between the light and the darkness.

AndGod called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening, and there was morning — the first day.

AndGod said, Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it be a division between waters and waters.

AndGod made the expanse, and divided between the waters that are under the expanse and the waters that are above the expanse; and it was so.

AndGod called the expanse Heavens. And there was evening, and there was morning — a second day.

AndGod said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together to one place, and let the dry [land] appear. And it was so.

AndGod called the dry [land] Earth, and the gathering together of the waters he called Seas. AndGod saw that it was good.
